Replacing traditional steel structure with aluminum alloy structure can reduce the weight of transportation vehicles by 30% to 40%, engine manufacturing can reduce by 30%, and wheel manufacturing can reduce by 50%.
In other words, every 1kg of aluminum used in transportation vehicles can reduce its own weight by 2.25kg, with a weight reduction effect of up to 125%, and can reduce exhaust emissions by 20kg during the entire service life of transportation vehicles.
Benefits of aluminum alloy
- Light weight
- Good heat dissipation
- Easy to form
- Strong corrosion resistance
- Good welding performance
- High recyclability
Aluminum in cars
Cast aluminum alloys
Cast aluminum alloy has excellent casting performance. Suitable alloys and casting methods can be selected according to the requirements and economic benefits of various aspects such as purpose of use, part shape, dimensional accuracy, quantity, quality standards, mechanical properties, etc.
Cast aluminum alloys are mainly used for casting engine cylinder blocks, clutch housings, rear axle housings, steering gear housings, transmissions, valve trains, oil pumps, water pumps, rocker covers, wheels, engine frames, brake calipers, oil cylinders and brake discs and other non-engine components.
Wrought aluminum alloy
Wrought aluminum alloy is mainly used in automobiles to manufacture body panels such as doors and trunks, bumpers, engine hoods, wheel spokes, hub covers, wheel exterior covers, brake assembly protective covers, mufflers, anti-lock braking systems, heat exchangers, body frames, seats, car floor and other structural parts, as well as decorative parts such as instrument panels.
- Product categories: aluminum plates, aluminum sheets, aluminum tubes, special section profiles
- Aluminum alloys: 1050/1050A, 1070, 1100, 2024, 3A21, 5049, 5052, 5754, 5182, 5083, 6A16, 6111, 6013, 6014, 6061, 6063, 6082.
Aluminum in rail transport
- Body aluminum alloy plate: side plates are made of 6061 T6, 5083 and other alloys.
- Body chassis and frame: 7N01 T4 and other alloys are used.
- Roof panels and floor slabs: 5005 O, 5005 H14, 5005 H18, 5052 O and other alloys are used.
- Body aluminum alloy profiles: body frame is made of 5083 H112 and other alloys.
Aluminum in commercial vehicles
Common commercial vehicles include vans, refrigerated trucks, dump trailers, semi-trailers and RVs, livestock transport vehicles, etc. In addition, the compartments on fire trucks and buses are similar to commercial vehicles, and various aluminum alloy materials are used.
- Car body: It can be made of 5A03, 5A05, 5083, 6061, 6005 and other aluminum alloys, welded with 5183 aluminum alloy welding rods, and the car body is welded with 3mm~6mm thick plates.
- Side panels: It can be made into an aluminum alloy skin + inner panel structure, or a composite side panel structure can be formed by combining aluminum alloy and fiber reinforced composite materials.
Aluminum uses in fuel tank
In aluminum alloy fuel tanks, 5083, 5454, and 5182 are commonly used tank materials. In addition, 6061 and 6063 are usually used as extruded aluminum profiles for pipes, protection, beams and other structural parts on powder tank semi-trailers. 3003 alloy is also used in toolbox doors, stairs or cab floors, such as 3003 treat plate
- 5083: The most common aluminum-magnesium alloy, with good welding performance, corrosion resistance and processing performance, and medium strength.
- 5454: Suitable for use at high temperatures, with good strength and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. When the long-term use temperature is above 135°C, its strength is better than 5083.
- 5182: Aluminum alloy plate for fuel tanks is a new type of high-magnesium alloy developed in recent years for the storage and transportation of dangerous goods fuel tanks. It meets the requirements of ADR and has a corresponding elongation higher than 5083 and 5454.
Aluminum in freight containers
Generally, a container of a certain specification is assembled and welded by 15-20 aluminum profiles of different cross-section specifications. It mainly uses 6061, 6082, 6063, and 6060 aluminum alloy T6 profiles, of which 6061 and 6082 aluminum alloys account for more than 90%.
- Aluminum profiles: Mainly used for box bottom plates, connectors, forklift rails, bottom support beams, upper and lower fixed beams of side aluminum plates, door frames and other parts.
- Side panels and top panels of aluminum containers: Mostly use 5052 aluminum alloy plates with good welding performance and good corrosion resistance. Aluminum plates of different thicknesses and widths are selected according to different box types and performance requirements.
